12 improvised solo fantasias for imagined acoustic spaces

Each fantasia - 10 for recorder, 2 for Swedish folk flute - seeks to imagine/recall, with the help of carefully selected digital reverb, the atmosphere and ambience of a particular venue I have performed in and/or experienced. The music is created with the physical space in mind and occasionally with reference to music I've performed there. Amazing woodwind improvisers like Linsey Pollak and Adam Simmons have been great motivators in my attempt at this project. I was also inspired by Genevieve Lacey's Soliloquy recitals in 2019 where she performed all 12 Telemann unaccompanied flute/recorder fantasias from memory on a single Voice Flute (Tenor Recorder in d'). My 12 fantasias were recorded at home in Melbourne (Australia) between October 13-23, 2020, at a time of significant restriction on movement and association due to Covid-19 regulations. I essentially recorded one new fantasia each day for 12 consecutive days, using 12 different instruments*.
